Overview

The OLAY team wanted to show consumers the superiority of their Total Effects SPF product by showing how it protects the skin against sun damage. Other than proving this claim, the activation tool had an omni-channel fit as well.

At USP we knew that translating the needs of OLAY Total Effects to an easy, yet, unique brand activation tool was one of the key goals – along with proving the product’s claims through a haptic experience.

Initiating the creative process, USP sent various concepts and prototypes, varying in shape and size, to the Olay team. Both sides agreed: the UV Protection technology was the perfect match for the Total Effects campaign.

The Challenge

For the Younger Skin Proof, Olay needed to make the "Protection Against Sun Damage" promise something shoppers in the skin care category could see for themselves, not just read on a label. In the few seconds a shopper spends at shelf or in a consultation, copy and ingredient lists rarely land, especially when rival products advertise uv protection, anti-aging, whitening, damage protection claims.

The brief for the Younger Skin Proof was to turn that abstract message into a tangible, repeatable proof point that retail staff, pharmacists or beauty advisors could run on demand, without lab equipment or specialist training, while staying on brand for Olay.

The Approach

“7 Benefits in 1 – for younger looking skin” was the primary message the OLAY team wanted to illustrate with our demo card – while engaging their consumers in a tangible and easy way.

USP Demo Solutions built the Younger Skin Proof for Olay around the Sun Damage Demo - Dark Spots & Wrinkles method, reducing the Protection Against Sun Damage story to a single visible reaction the consumer can trigger themselves. That gives the conversation a clear before/after moment in the skin care aisle instead of a one-way pitch.

From the same physical interaction with the Younger Skin Proof, the demo substantiates claim areas such as uv protection, anti-aging, whitening, damage protection, so a single asset can carry several conversations across the Olay range.

The Result
